Do you work in a team?
No they do this by themselves.
Who do you work under?
They work as a freelancer providing their graphic expertise for others to buy and for them to
create.
When do you wake up?
Being a graphic designer and a freelancer at that, Kumar strictly wakes up at 10.
What hardware do you use?
They are equipped with two main tools, a Microsoft Surface Book 2 being his main tool and a
stylus pen.
How do you manage the workload?
By setting up due dates at the end of day, they push themselves to creating something they are
proud of and are able to give to the buyer.
How do you communicate to the buyer and understand the audience?
They start of by creating many rough sketches and then creating a logo or design based around
that. They then tweak the final design based on the customer.
Can you tell me how you plan for the final result?
Through a large session of brainstorming ideas on paper, they find the perfect one. Then they
sketch the design in Illustrator and finally clean things up in Photoshop.
How do you avoid copyright?
Well, they, for most projects, create all the assets by themselves and thus do not run into this
problem.
Follow up question: What do you find rewarding in your job?
They hope to bring about the business or store’s “identity” and find it memorable to change these
shops.
Honestly, when looking at the life of someone who truly works exclusively within this setting of
being a graphic designer, I never expected it to be such a tight schedule. Although the video goes
on to even start at 5:30, it highlights the huge workload yet to come, I find that they have struck
10 am as best suited for them. This nevertheless boosted the appreciation and love that graphic
designers have and the commitment they provide. I found being a freelancer was something I had
not thought of and something this video brought to me. One more thing I found was needed
would be a well-rounded computer/laptop, especially seen when looking at this particular
freelancer. I found that the way they managed their workload matched what we learned. This is
especially true when it comes to looking at the deadlines they meet even as they take breaks.
Their time management skills can not be understated. They go to a coffee shop and push
themselves every day to not only have the skill but the creativity for each project. I find that their
planning even before they hop on Photoshop is marveling. I admire that they take a step back to
assess what they want to do and what style the customer wants more than what they might find
amazing. I found this especially true when they scraped multiple interact designs that all could
have just as easily presented to the customer. Their skills are especially prevalent when looking
into how they create their own assets and designs, showing that they constantly strive to be
themselves. Finally, one thing I found interesting is how they used more than just Photoshop to
create their vision.
